Arkansas Doctors Launch Podcast Featuring Stories of Healthcare Workers
A new podcast called Memoirs in Medicine aims to highlight the humanity in healthcare and create a space for meaningful discussion about the practice of medicine. The podcast is co-hosted by Dr. David Spiro, a pediatric emergency room physician, and Dr. Jon Oden, a pediatric endocrinologist.
On each episode, one healthcare worker shares a story from their career that has profoundly affected them and provides one suggestion for improving medical care. The first two episodes of the series introduce the hosts, who each have their own personal story to share.
“Storytelling can be quite cathartic, so one purpose of the show is to give healthcare workers an opportunity to talk about their complex experiences and struggles,” said co-host Dr. Jon Oden.
Topics covered on the program include discrimination in medicine, setting boundaries with patients, and the impact of witnessing a person pass away.
“We’ll be exploring how healthcare workers can better look out for one another and how they can provide more compassionate patient care,” said co-host Dr. David Spiro.
While the podcast will feature healthcare workers around the world, many of the guests are from Arkansas.
The podcast is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, Audible, and other major podcasting apps. You can also listen at memoirsinmedicine.com.
Memoirs in Medicine is produced by the Little Rock-based podcast production company Power of Pod, LLC.
